How to get more RF power from my FlexRadio!
😂😂😂
This is a true game changer for amateur radio. Having a GPS built into the radio is huge and having an NTP server built into the radio will solve a lot of timing issues for the digital modes. Will the API be extended to provide Lat/Lon and Grid Square 4/6 information? I can't wait to see the wider receive bandwidth for the digital modes in action. Looking forward to seeing Flex in Marlborough. I know I'll have more questions.
The commands already exist in the API and apply to all radios running SmartSDR. Here is the API command and the response: c1|sub gps all S4EAD1E55|gps lat=0#lon=0#grid=#altitude=0 m#tracked=0#visible=9#speed=0 kts#freq_error=0#status=Warming Up#time=00:17:44Z#track=0.0 You will need to calculate the grid square using the LAT/LONG values. stevemorse.org/jcal/latlon.php

Hahah! Great! 😆😂
Looking forward to the roll out!
Have we lost support and update for the older models now that they lack processing power you will be building on, Having just bought a dream station 8 months ago, with a 6600 without the processing power to handle audio and many things coming seems weird lol
I thought it was going to be my "forever" radio and apparently that is not the case.
Seriously? Nothing is forever. 6000 series has had a good lifetime already. I don’t think that they have said no updates, just that the features that needs the extra grunt will be 8000 only?
Is it possible, if you were to add the GPSDO module, for the Flex radio to function as a stratum 1 Network Time Protocol server? It seems like it has all the needed hardware to do so.
Still a bit unclear about the Flex setting. I presently have the receive gain value for 2m at 0 db. Does this seem right? And when I turn the Q5 off I get no sound or signals at all.
I turned mine upside down, removed the bottom cover then did the adjustments when the two pots were exposed and clear. I think this is easier than poking around through the access holes.
How timely. I've had my Q5 collecting dust meaning to do this.
Initially, I used the Rx alignment method you suggested. I had serious concerns about the Q5’s (2m) sensitivity when I wasn’t copying stations that were audible on two other transverters. I decided to measure the sensitivity and saw that marginally copyable signals were showing about S1 on my 6500’s meter. I decided to adjust the Rx gain using a signal input equal to S9. Turning the Q5 on, and off, produced a very slight but noticeable increase in the noise floor. I took my findings to Cory at Q5 to get his opinion. While he said that it wasn’t a very critical adjustment, adjusting to achieve a slight increase in the noise floor is what he suggested. Fast forward to last week I noticed that I’m no longer able to get all segments of the LED indicator to come on. I’m going to use my generator to determine if it’s related to the Q5 or possibly by a diminished drive from my 6500. I need to also measure the RF output from my Q5.
Everything I have been searching for about 8k series. Thank you!
Some time ago you mentioned that the military contracts would have fallout in the consumer product. I suspect that much better processing power is a portion of that - correct? I do realize that newer components is also involved, and I suspect that things such as improved DNR, Controlled Envelope Single Sideband and the like will have improvements forthcoming.
This makes me wants to get into the hobby!
Out of Stock on every product on the website though. Love that you came out with something 'better' and 'faster' and 'newer'. But when can I get one?
What products are you looking for? No, we are not out of stock on all products.
When will there be an integration of the tuner and power genius within the smartsdr
Wonderful story teller! - I really enjoyed listening. Found this after pre-ordering the Flex 8400 :)
I believe many people will be happy to have just a all band Amateur and Broadcast bands receiver (without a transmit part) from Flex 8000 series with all its features, just make it in a normal receiver form factor with touchscreen 10’ display and good sounding stereo speakers, big and small knobs and buttons and so on…
I cannot get slice master ion my computer because I*t is zipped and I cannot run winzip So I am out of luck.
What is the difference between adaptive and static Pre distortion Rob
The company provides terrible after-sales service. I placed my order about a month ago and there hasn't even been an update on the order, no information on a date. Terrible service
Hi and thanks for reaching out. I am not able to directly lookup you order since we can't tell who are are on UA-cam, but we do and have sent out updates on product shipments either via the FlexInsider or to those that have radios on order. It sounds like anything we sent you has captured by your ISP or your SPAM filter. You might want to investigate further and if you would like a follow up, feel free to email us at hams@flexradio.com and we usually return emails within hours. We handled over 500 direct replies yesterday.
@@FlexRadioSystems This is not true. You did not send me any email yesterday. I follow the status of my order daily and there has not even been a response to the email I sent to you 3 days ago. Regrettable.
Question: Will there be a way to use multiple samplers with ADP on the 8600? I would like ADP active on HF, but I would also like to use it with my 2m and 432 transverters.
Good question. This needs to be confirmed, but for a transverter, the radio only knows it as an rf signal at the IF frequency, usually 28Mhz. You should be able to sample the RF at a -60db and feed that back into the radio for an adaptive correction. This is a question that would be best asked in the FlexRadio community as we can that ask someone in the company to respond.
You didn't mention if you're still considering offering an outboard pre distortion sampler/interface for us 6600 owners. If the current 6600 has the processing power to do it, this would be awesome! Anyway will be watching the rollout with interest. My 6600 is only 2yrs old and I can't justify upgrading - yet. Thanks for making the video! VE7OVY
We will do that if it is economical to develop and manufacture. More on this in a few months.
It was time for an evolution. Congrats!!! I will have to get one when money allows, but will keep my 6700 possibly for a remote site.
Something that caught my attention is at the 10:57 point in the video where Steve talks about the Spectrum View feature that lets the user see multiple bands at the same time. I'm curious how this differs from seeing multiple bands on the 6000 series (2, 4, or 8 bands) and, how many bands will this Spectrum View be able to see? 8 perhaps? KF4HR
As I understand it, it would only show those frequency ranges.
@@FlexRadioSystems It would be nice to have a better understanding of the Spectrum View feature. Any idea when we might find out?
How do you make a recording of the received audio if DAX still outputs mono?
That is correct. HF communications are in Mono/slice so they are output in Mono via DAX that can easily be recorded with tools such as Audacity or VoiceMeeter. Sorry, I don't understand why it has to be stereo? If with 2 slices, you record each DAX output, one on the L and the other on the R. This can be done today.
@@FlexRadioSystems you have to be synchronized in order to perform any operations on the signals. Making two separate recordings will lose sync due to missed samples and other odd events. I have tried this, and it will happen. The only way I have been able to record diversity and stay synchronized is to tell windows the default sound device is “Line 1” then record from Line 1. This is using VAC. To hear what the audio is doing, you need to run an audio repeater piping Line 1 to Speakers.
I have heard a lot about Flex Radios as the next level among SDRs, from my local ham colleagues. Yet to see one. 73 de Jon, VU2JO

We need Pure signal/Pre distortion please
Yes, we agree. The 8000 series will have it built in. It will be adaptive predistortion, not static.
Mike- Thanks for this post! Quick question: split RF or common RF with a 6700 or 6600? You said common IF but your said "split RF - same idea ..." so it left me wondering what you meant. 73 de K1HC
My god this would help with field day to get people interested. I just got my node red station working for radio amp tuner working but this is amazing.
Mike can i call on ft8 on 2 diff bands at the same time, same sequence?
No, the radio only can be transmitting on 1 band at a time.
Mike: I actually owned an old Eico "Seven Drifty Three" as a general. I got it as "Trading Stock" and got rid of it quickly!
I still would like to find a used Flex 1500. My first Flex. I now have my Flex 6600m.
Is there a detailed setup guide for this configuration?
I wanted to see the DIFFERENCE, rather than descriptions of add ons and extraneous information, well produced but did not answer the fundamental question.
I agree. The two models kept running together in my head. Way too much detail about each jack function. All I wanted was the "differences".
A 6600 is simply two 6400s in one box. So with the 6600 you can receive on two different antennas at the same time. A 6400 can only receive on one antenna at a time. The other difference is the 6600 has better preselectors, and it has the tuner standard.
If I download Smart SDR but I don't yet have a radio can I open the program and familiarize myself with it? N1WHA
No, there is no demo operation. However, if you buy a radio, you will have 30 days to try it on your own station and if you do not like it, you can return it for a full refund.
Hi, may be you can help me, i had slicemaster all setup few days ago and it worked fine but today when i click on wsjt-x button i get an error:slice is not assiciated with DAX audio channel 1, slice= 'A' any advice what went wrong?
I am confused. How do you work satellites that use 2meters and 70 centimeters on an HF 6-160 meter transceiver?
Mike has two transverters. I believe one is a 144 MHz transverter with a 28 MHz IF, and the other is a 432 MHz transverter with a 50 MHz IF
You guys go down too many rabbit holes in these videos. Far too much chit chat. Focus on the topic and stay on it please.
Very low S/N ratio on all Flex vids. Mostly a sales pitch.
Mike, Great job as usual!
That’s amazing.
Why are you not using full screen? Geez
I have no idea what you are talking about typical flex radio user
Does this apply to version 3 software too ?
I don't believe so, but I'm waiting for an updated video.
I'm interested in purchasing a Flex 6400 or M model but I need to test blind accessibility 1ST. There are 3 programs that are accessible to the blind, Dog Park SDR for Mac, Smart SDR for IOS and a windows program called JJ Radio for Flex. I would like to be able to test these programs out before dropping the cash on a Flex. I'm good on QRZ if somebody from Flex Radio Systems would like to help and I'm hoping this will be possible. 73: Mike DE VO1OP
Very Helpful
Is the flex-6400 able to work satellites in full duplex?
